About Us

The Servant’s Heart, Corp. in Fort Collins, Colorado is a community outreach ministry that started in 2014. Our organization is built on over 22 years of experience and the passion to make a positive impact in the community.

The Board provides leadership for fulfilling the mission of outreach for the homeless 55 plus, Veterans, single parents, disabled and families in need of assistance.

Meet The Board

    Ricki Shorkey

     Ricki comes with many years of nonprofit experience both as a volunteer and staff. Her family moved to Ft Collins CO 23 years ago where she continued her volunteering with nonprofits and worked for a local nonprofit adult day center. After 32 years in the healthcare work force she retired and decided to take her volunteering to the next level and start a nonprofit.
    Her efforts mainly centered around working with homeless, especially seniors, Veterans and families. Ricki and her husband Jimmy enjoy camping, exploring Colorado, and visits with their son, daughter in law & grandchildren.

    Vice-President James Shorkey

    James “Jimmy” Shorkey, Machine Trade III, 23 years at Colorado State University, grew up in the machine industry, almost every object in the world contains parts that are created by a machinist. As a machinist, he has utilized his knowledge, skills, and expertise to repair broken parts, modify old ones, fabricate replacements, design and manufacture a rat walk to aid in the study of Parkinsons Disease, design and manufacture a prosthetic leg for a dog, design an acorn nut nozzle for a water feature, and designed and manufactured wedding bands.
    Jimmy’s an Eagle Scout, enjoys camping, biking riding, trying new foods and spending time with his grandchildren.

    Treasurer Brenda Schwindt

    Brenda Schwindt is the Corporate Secretary / General Manager of H-S Testing, Inc. an oil and gas company that places the utmost importance on environment and safety. Prior to accepting this position, she was the receptionist at Elder Haus Adult day program, quickly moving to the position of activity director.

    Brenda also showed her compassion and desire to help others by being a Foster parent, opening her heart and home to many, many children from Larimer County.

    Over the years, she has worked in many fields, sharing her care and compassion and fulfilling the needs of others and often with no compensation.

    In addition, Brenda is a working volunteer board member with The Servant’s Heart Corp. and loves every minute of it. She has a strong drive to help others as she feels blessed in life to do so.

    She is a single mother of two boys and a grandmother of three boys who she loves immensely. Some of her favorite activities are camping with friends, family, and her 4 dogs and four wheeling all over the backcountry!

  • Secretary Shasta Collins

    Shasta Collins has an A.A.S. in Paralegal Studies from Front Range Community College, in Fort Collins, CO and is a Disabled Veteran having served in the U.S. Army. Shasta is determined to assist local homeless Veterans in any way possible, having been in their shoes, she understands their struggle and need for assistance. Shasta is also an avid biker and organizes the annual Ride for a better life bike run for Servant’s Heart. In her own words;  Through our work together I believe change can happen one day at a time.

    Penni Benkler

    Penni Benkler has worked for SAP Concur for 12 years as a project manager. She also has previously served on the board for Friends of Park County Animals and has volunteered for various organizations over the last 25 years. 

  • Sara Adams

    Sara is employed at Forney Industries, Fort Collins, Colorado.
